The 2017 Oscar nominations are right here! And naturally they’re messy, however to be truthful… they aren’t as messy as I fearful they might be. As I mentioned yesterday in my preview submit, I actually thought that many of the classes had been locked again in November/December. However all the pieces shifted rapidly this month as La La Land surged and everybody else was seemingly left within the mud. La La Land was persistently nominated for just about all the pieces, and the movie scored 14 nominations general. Past that, there’s excellent news, there isn’t an OscarsSoWhite scenario in any respect. YAY! Listed here are the large nominations (you may see the entire record right here on the Academy’s Twitter):

“Can’t Cease the Feeling” – Trolls
“Metropolis of Stars” – La La Land
“The Empty Chair” – Jim: The James Foley Story
“How Far I’ll Go” – Moana (yay, Lin-Manuel!)

Some surprises… I’m so joyful that Ruth Negga received her nomination, it’s SO well-deserved. I might have liked to see Joel Edgerton there too, however I’m okay. I additionally suppose Loving deserved a Greatest Image nomination, however certain. I’m stunned that Arrival received nominations for Greatest Image and Greatest Director, and but Amy Adams was shut out of Greatest Actress??? I’m glad Emily Blunt didn’t stroll away with a nomination for Woman on the Prepare and I feel Meryl received nominated mainly due to her Golden Globes speech. I’m disenchanted that the silly Justin Timberlake track received nominated and as a lot as I need Lin-Manuel Miranda to win, I believe La La Land will dominate in all the music classes.

What else? YAY YAY YAY for Moonlight’s nominations. I hope it wins Greatest Image and I might like it if Barry Jenkins gained Greatest Director. I’ve my fingers crossed for Mahershala Ali too!! I like the nomination for Dev Patel, I like that Ava DuVernay’s The 13th received nominated (and I hope it wins!) and I like Viola Davis after all.

Shock shout-out for Michael Shannon too!! I fearful that Aaron Taylor Johnson would get nominated, however no: it’s all Shannon! Alas, no Jake Gyllenhaal for Nocturnal both. Oh, and nothing for Martin Scorsese however Mel Gibson will get a nomination??
